South Laurel Stays Perfect With 49-0 Rout of Harlan County

LONDON — South Laurel continued its historic start to the 2025 season with a dominant 49-0 victory over Harlan County on Friday night, improving to a program-best 6-0.

The Cardinals jumped out early and never looked back.

Wes Dowell powered the offense with four touchdowns — scoring on runs of 3, 14, and 2 yards, and hauling in a 28-yard strike from Mason Griffin.

Griffin also connected with Dowell on a 21-yard touchdown pass as the senior standout accounted for five total scores.

Tim Thompson added a 2-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, while Maddox Warren capped the scoring with a 3-yard pass to Brady Robinson in the fourth.

South Laurel’s defense matched the offense’s intensity, blanking a Harlan County team that entered the night 4-1. The Black Bears fall to 4-2 and will have a bye week before hosting Corbin on October 10.

South Laurel, now 6-0 for the first time in program history, will look to keep the momentum going Friday when the Cardinals travel to face Perry Central.
