Cima nets six goals to lead Whitley County past Middlesboro

WILLIAMSBURG — The Whitley County Colonels boys’ soccer team dominated 13th Region rival Middlesboro on Tuesday, rolling to a 10-2 victory.

The win pushes the Colonels to 8-5-1 on the season, while the Yellow Jackets drop to 3-4.

“It was good to get another region win against an improving Middlesboro team,” Whitley County coach Michael Branham said. “We came out aggressive off the start took an early lead and let our young guys get some time before getting our starters back in to finish the game,” he added. “Now we look to the OBI game Thursday.”

Senior standout Rizzo Cima wasted little time setting the tone, scoring the game’s first four goals in a 12-minute stretch. He added his fifth tally at the 15:26 mark to cap an impressive first-half performance.

Whitley County’s offensive surge didn’t stop there.

Kadence Grubb (18:37), Brody Moses (18:28), and Bryson Mahan (15:48) all found the back of the net to push the Colonels ahead 8-0 before Cima’s sixth goal made it 9-0.

Middlesboro showed fight late in the first half, scoring twice in the final six minutes to cut the halftime deficit to 9-2.

The Colonels put the finishing touch on the night when Mahan netted his second goal with 34:48 remaining in the second half to secure the 10-2 final margin.
