Lady Jaguars hand Middlesboro, 5-2, loss

MIDDLESBORO — In a matchup between two of the region’s top girls’ soccer programs, North Laurel came away with a statement win Tuesday night, defeating Middlesboro, 5-2.

The Lady Jaguars improved to 3-3 on the season while the Lady Yellow Jackets, who entered the contest at 8-1, suffered just their second loss of the year and fell to 8-2.

North Laurel’s offense was powered by standout performances from Haley Combs and Lauren Crouch. Combs delivered a hat trick and added an assist, while Crouch scored twice. Eden Begley also chipped in with an assist in the victory.

“A good all-around win for us tonight,” North Laurel coach Kayla Carson said. “We saw a lot of good things. We played together as team. Two of our senior leaders, Lauren Crouch and Haley Combs stepped up and scored some big goals for us.

“Every game we’re able to learn and adjust and we’re definitely moving in the right direction,” Carson added. “Tonight was a physical game from start to finish. Thankful to walk away with a good win.”
