WILLIAMSBURG — The tide has turned in the 50th District rivalry between South Laurel and Williamsburg.
After dropping 14 straight matches to South Laurel, Williamsburg has now won three in a row over the Lady Cardinals, capped off by Thursday’s convincing 25-20, 25-21, 25-20 sweep.
The Lady Yellow Jackets improved to 6-6 overall and 1-1 in district play, while South Laurel slipped to 4-6 and 0-2 against district opponents.
Williamsburg coach Dirk Berta credited his team’s collective effort for the victory.
“The girls deserve all of the credit, they put in the work and played together as a team tonight,” he said. “Another quality opponent, this time within our district. Super-proud of the effort by our entire team tonight. Kinley McNew had a tremendous game, along with Ellie Breeding and our two seniors, Kylee and Karina Nantz. Braylee Evans, Allie Peace, Magomery Douglas and Addi Jarboe played great games as well. Peyton Taylor served great all night, too.
“We put a lot on our girls and they always deliver,” Berta added. “We are super proud of them! This gives us great momentum heading into the All A Region Tournament on Saturday. We’re on to the next one. As always, Go Jackets.”
The Lady Jackets will carry that momentum into the upcoming All A Region Tournament this weekend.
