Corbin remains perfect, outlasting North Laurel with 28-14 win

LONDON — Corbin continued its dominance in the series against North Laurel on Friday night, earning a 28-14 victory to improve to 2-0 on the season. With the win, the Redhounds remain unbeaten in seven meetings all-time with the Jaguars, while North Laurel falls to 1-1.

The Redhounds wasted no time setting the tone. Cam Estep broke free for a 56-yard touchdown run with 5:24 left in the opening quarter, giving Corbin a 7-0 lead. Just minutes later, Cole Stevens extended the margin with a 61-yard scoring run, pushing the advantage to 14-0 by the end of the first.

Corbin struck again early in the second quarter when quarterback Mason Salmons connected with Clay Akins on a 3-yard touchdown pass. The Redhounds held a commanding 21-0 advantage at the 10:41 mark of the period.

North Laurel broke through in the third quarter as Cooper Robinson powered his way into the end zone on a 13-yard run to cut the deficit to 21-7. But Corbin had an answer.

As the third quarter clock expired, Trey Person added a 12-yard touchdown run, stretching the Redhounds’ lead to 28-7.

The Jaguars battled back in the fourth, with Jude McWhorter scoring on a 5-yard run with 6:22 remaining, but that would be the final score of the night as Corbin held strong down the stretch.
