Jaguars score four consecutive goals to earn county bragging rights with win over South Laurel

LONDON — North Laurel picked up a much-needed win on Thursday, scoring four unanswered goals to defeat 49th District rival South Laurel, 4-1.

The Jaguars (2-4-1) snapped a four-game losing skid in the process while handing the Cardinals (4-1) their first loss.

Eli Davis and Jaxon Jacobs scored two goals apiece in the win.

“I felt we played much better tonight with our possession and passing,” North Laurel coach David Broyles said. “We had several shots on goal in the first half, but we didn’t have enough pace on the shots to get past the their keeper. A mistake on clearing the ball in the first half put us down, 1-0. We continued to build and get chances and Eli Davis put us on the board with a shot from 25 yards out to tie it up.

“Both teams battled for the next 30 minutes before we took the lead on a second goal from Davis,” he added. “From there, South had to press to try to tie it and we were able to get two more goals from Jaxon Jacobs on breaks. Overall, I felt we controlled the game and knew if we could just find the back of the net we’d be good. Great win for the boys, but now we prepare for the next district game vs Whitley County.”
