WILLIAMSBURG — Whitley County kept its perfect start alive Tuesday night, rolling past 50th District rival South Laurel in straight sets, 25-11, 25-15, 25-11.
The victory improves the Lady Colonels to 6-0 overall and 1-0 in district play, while the Lady Cardinals drop to 4-3 and 0-1.
“Really good team effort tonight,” Halcomb said. “We came out with a lot of focus and determination to get off to a great start and it was pleasing to see them do that. That’s been a struggle for us, but not tonight. At times we were clicking on all cylinders — defense was moving as one on the court.
“Our serving was much better and allowed our offense to stay in a good rhythm,” he added. “The girls had fun out there and worked extremely hard. Our crowd was phenomenal tonight and our girls fed off the energy in the gym. I’m proud of all our girls — including our freshmen and JV teams. We will get back in the gym and continue to work and get better.”
