HAZARD — North Laurel recorded its first shutout in 15 games, going into enemy territory and blanking Perry Central, 21-0, to win its season opener.
The Jaguars received two rushing touchdowns by Jude McWhorter and one rushing touchdown by Cooper Robinson in the win.
“I’m really proud of this team,” North Laurel coach Steven Nelson said. “They fought adversity all night long and we had multiple touchdowns called back. The little mistakes that you have in your first game showed, and I think we have a very good football team that has to keep improving every single day.
“I love that we kept them out of the end zone, but we have to find ways to overcome penalties and finish drives,” he added. “We always have room for improvement and a win is a win. Every single player stepped up and played great team football.”
