South Laurel remains unbeaten with 3-1 win over Hazard

HAZARD — Three different players scored in South Laurel’s 3-1 road win over Hazard.

Zayden Chumbley, Kayden Farler, and Blake Robinson each scored in the two-goal win as the Lady Cardinals improved to 2-0.

“I felt like this match was a lot of the same that we saw at Estill County,” South Laurel’s coach Brooks Cawood said. “We are possessing the ball very well and just falling short in the offensive third. Our three goals came from 3 different players; Freshman Zayden Chumbley got us started with about a minute into the match with a nice goal.  Sophomores Kayden Farler and Blake Robinson came up big in the second half.  Kayden scored to give us a 2-0 lead. We gave up a goal on a miscommunication and Blake was able to put us up 3-1 and finish well.

“Freshman Seth Reece has stepped up big as a center back and playing very well,” he added. “Another freshman we are asking a lot from is Luke Sauer at right back. He is getting involved with attacking and creating scoring opportunities for the team.

“Hazard played a great match and hit a lot of thru balls that would catch our back line on our heels,” Cawood added. “Without our minor error, we have another shutout.  It’s the little things that keep coming back to hurt us and we just need to work on putting a full 80 minutes together.”
