OWENSBORO — Whitley County’s run to a Kentucky 2A state championship came to an end Saturday evening in the title game, losing 4-2 to Boyd County.
The Colonels (17-4) led 2-1 after four innings of play but the Lions rallied for a run in the sixth inning to tie the game before adding two runs in the seventh inning to get the win.
Jason Nunley connected with a two-run homer in the fourth inning to give Whitley County a 2-1 edge. He finished with a hit, two RBI, and a run scored. Dee Parker and EJ Allen had the Colonels’ other two hits.
Christian Wilson took the loss, allowing four hits and one earned run in 6.2 innings. He also struck four batters. Eli Powers recorded the final out for the Colonels.
