Napier, McWhorter, and Napier come up clutch in North Laurel’s 4-3 win over Clay County

LONDON — Ashton Napier’s run-scoring single in the bottom of the sixth inning proved to be the game-winning hit as North Laurel pulled off a 4-3 49th District win over Clay County.

Cameron Hinkle sealed the deal in the top of the seventh, allowing only a walk while striking out two batters as the Jaguars improved to 10-8, and 1-0 against district competition.

The loss dropped the Tigers to 9-9, and 0-2 in district play.

“It was a big win as far as district seeding goes,” North Laurel coach Darren McWhorter said. “I thought we played well defensively. We only had one error and the two guys that stood out Offensively was Jude McWhorter and Ashton Napier.

“Jude had a two-run run home run, and a triple while scoring twice,” he added. “Ashton Napier had two RBI singles and gave us the go ahead run. I thought our four pitchers threw well. Cooper Parman started throwing two innings then Dylan Hurley threw four innings getting the win, and Cam Hinkle threw the seventh for the save.  Great team win.”
