CORBIN — South Laurel’s sophomore Kenzie Williams brought her ‘A’ game to the pitcher’s circle and plate on Monday.
She limited Corbin to two hits, no runs, and only three base runners while striking out five batters during the Lady Cardinals’ 9-0 win.
The game was scoreless for two innings before South Laurel’s struck for four runs. The Lady Cardinals (10-3, 1-0) added five insurance runs in the top of the seventh to put the game out of reach.
“Great win tonight,” South Laurel coach Carly Mink said. “Always great to get a district win and especially on the road.
“It was nice to get ahead early and control the game,” she added. “Anytime you can play with a lead it helps the team play more relaxed. Super proud of our defense. It was a great game in the circle as well as the defensive behind her.”
Williams also had a big game at the plate, delivering two hits and three RBI while Bailey Frazier finished with two hits, and two runs scored. Addison Baker had a hit, two RBI, and a run scored while Morgan Jackson finished with a hit, an RBI, and two runs scored.
