FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. — South Laurel capped off spring break play in a big way, turning in a stellar effort during their 18-5 win over Jackson County.
The Lady Cardinals (7-2) took advantage of six errors and four walks while delivering 13 hits in the win.
“When you’re able to get a big lead in the top of the first, it sets up the rest of the game for you,” South Laurel coach Carly Mink said. “We had a lot of good at bats against a good pitcher. It was a good team win. It has been a good week for us.”
South Laurel scored 11 runs in the top of the first inning while the Lady Generals responded with two runs in the bottom of the first. The Lady Cardinals added four runs in the third inning while Jackson County scored three runs. Carly Mink’s squad out the game away with a three-run fourth inning.
Emmie Rice connected with a three-run homer in the win and finished with four RBI. Ryleigh Bretz delivered a hit, three RBI and one run scored while Kenzie Williams finished with two hits and three RBI. Morgan Jackson delivered two hits, two RBI, and scored four times while Bailey Frazier had a hit, an RBI, and three runs scored. Addison Baker delivered two hits, and RBI and two runs scored while Skye Lawson had two hits, an RBI, and a run scored. Audrey Likins finished with a hit and a run scored while Sadie Lewis delivered a hit, two RBI, and a run scored.
Kenzie Williams got the win, tossing five innings while allowing seven hits, and three earned runs. She struck out seven batters.
Lexie Brockman and Kylie Moore each had two hits apiece for Jackson County while Moore scored twice and Brockman scored once. Blakelynn Fee had a hit and scored twice while Ella Sallee finished with a hit and two RBI. Macy Wathen delivered a hit and an RBI.
Candice Williams took the loss, tossing five innings while allowing 13 hits and seven earned runs. She struck out seven batters.
