Hillard strikes out 15 to lead Barbourville past Williamsburg

BARBOURVILLE — Williamsburg had no answer for Barbourville pitcher Luke Hillard during Wednesday’s 13th Region All ‘A’ Classic semifinal matchup.

Hillard turned in a complete game shutout, allowing only three hits and striking out 15 batters during the Tigers’ 5-2 win.

The Yellow Jackets led 2-0 entering the fourth inning before Barbourville rallied to score five runs.

Jaxon Hammons drove in two runs, finishing with a hit and two runs scored while Caden Miracle also drove in a run.

“We went down early in the first off a couple of miscues,” Barbourville coach Brandon Hillard said. “In the third, Noah Gray came up with a huge play in center for us and it really sparked our defense from there.

“Luke Hillard gave us the outing we needed him to have,” he added. “He was efficient in the zone the majority of the night. Can’t say enough about his performance and the defense stepping up the rest of the way.

“In the bottom of the fourth, Caiden Miracle delivered a triple that sparked the offense scoring one,” Hillard continued. “Then we were able to push some insurance runs across.”

Isaiah Sizemore led the Yellow Jackets with two hits, an RBI and a run scored.
