Allen brothers shut down GRC’s bats during Colonels’ 3-2 win

WILLIAMSBURG — On the night that Whitley County played its first game at the newly named Jeremy Shope Field, honoring the Colonels’ state champion coach, it was only fitting that they secured a victory on Tuesday.

The Colonels (1-0) achieved this with outstanding pitching performances from brothers EJ and Kip Allen, who combined to limit George Rogers Clark to just six hits and two runs in their 3-2 win.

EJ Allen tossed five innings, allowing four hits and no earned runs while striking out six batters. Kip Allen got the save, pitching the final two innings, surrendering one earned run, and two hits while finishing with two strikeouts.

“Good first win of the season against a well-coached team,” Shope said. “We pitched it well. EJ had a good start and Kip came in and finished the game. Only one walk between them. Excited about this team as we get guys comfortable.”

Spencer Bargo delivered at the plate with two hits and an RBI while EJ Allen and Ty Petrey delivered two hits. Caden Mountjoy had a hit and an RBI while Dee Parker also drove in a run. Petrey and Luke Ridener each scored once.
