No. 17 Lady Cardinals run win streak to 15 games with 23-point win over Pineville

LONDON — Ranked in the top 20 for the first time this season, No. 17 wasted little time defeating Pineville, 64-41, while running its win streak to 15 games.

It’s been one heck of a winning stretch for Tod Winland’s squad, who has defeated teams such as No. 8 North Laurel, Campbell County, Whitley County and Corbin during the stretch,

Add the Lady Lions to the list of teams that have lost to the Lady Cardinals since the win streak began back on Dec. 29, 2024.

“We came out flat and Pineville came to play and they did a nice job of executing on both ends,” Windlan said. “Coach Green does a nice job with his girls. I told our kids at halftime I was disappointed in their approach mentally and we got things corrected in second half and play South Laurel basketball.

“We were led in scoring by Maci Messer with 17, Jamie Buenaventura had 14, all in the second half,“ he added. “Skeeter Mabe carried us through the first half, scoring all her 11 points in the half, Callie Jones had 10, and Aubrey Bundy had five points.

I thought Ryleigh Bretz played well off the bench with Shelby Smith and Mia Hibbard adding good minutes. We are back in action Friday at Frederick Douglass — another top-ranked opponent. Proud of my team for what we have accomplished and we are hungry for more success. Go Cards.”

Ava Arnett led Pineville with 16 points, Kamryn Biliter scored 12 points, and Rachel Howard finished with 10 points.
