Burton’s 26-point, nine-rebound effort leads Knox Central past Alabama’s Hartselle High School

Knox Central evened its record at 1-1 in the Sandestin Beach Classic with a 71-64 win over Alabama’s Hartselle High School.

Grayson Burton led the way with 26 points, and nine rebounds while Tydus Summers had 18 points and eight rebounds. Hayden Melton added nine points and 14 rebounds.

“Very proud of my kids today showing great heart coming off a hard fought loss yesterday,” Knox Central coach Mitchell Madden said. “We played in my opinion the best team we have faced all year in Hartselle, Alabama and we held our ground. We were down 10 in first quarter, down one at the half but had the best attitude of the year of, no quit, and it paid off. 

“We were down 46-41 starting last quarter,” he added. “We came trapping, being very aggressive battled back to take the lead with 1:57 to go and made our free throws to finish the game. We are young but we play so hard and gritty. I love my team”

Friday’s Game

Forsyth, Ga. 73, Knox Central 65

Grayson Burton had 17 points while Hayden Hayden Melton added 11 points and eight rebounds during Knox Central’s 73-65 loss to Forsyth, Ga.

Tydus Summers added 15 points in the loss. 

“We came out slow got down nine points and made it hard on ourself the whole game having to fight from behind,” Knox Central coach Mitchell Madden said. “We played very hard, even went up, 51-50, at one point but had couple bad possessions that they contributed on and switch  the momentum. They were a really disciplined, physical team so hats off to them.”
