Dixon’s crystal ball: Corbin looking for 25th straight win over Whitley; Can Lynn Camp & South Laurel pick up key district wins?

Last week I turned in a 9-1 mark, improving to 59-13 overall, which is good enough to raise my picking percentage to 81.9 percent. My goal each year is to finish above 80 percent, so with that said, so far, so good.

This week is going to be a tad bit rougher, though.

Enough of my rambling, let’s to get picking some games.

Corbin at Whitley County

When it comes to dominating a series, go no further than Corbin’s success on the gridiron against Whitley County.
The two teams have met 24 times and in all 24 contests, the Redhounds have came away with a win over the Colonels.
Corbin will attempt to move its win streak against Whitley County to 25 games on Friday, but to do so, the Redhounds will have to accomplish the feat on the road.
Corbin is averaging 38.4 points per game when the Redhounds face Whitley County while the Colonels are averaging only 5.8 points per contest in the 24 meetings. Corbin has shut Whitley County out 11 times during the series with the closest outcomes coming in 2019 (35-21), 2017 (14-0), and 1967 (14-0).

I think you see where I’m heading with this.

Prediction: Corbin 49, Whitley County 7

Harlan County at Pulaski County

The Black Bears have shown they can play with anyone. They’ve struggled finishing games, and will run into a Pulaski County team that is darn good.

Prediction: Pulaski County 42, Harlan County 7

Clay County at Knox Central

I believe this will be the Tigers’ toughest test so far this season. Coach Wayne Mills has done a fantastic job in building Knox Central into a contender, and the Panthers should have enough weapons to pull this game out at home.

Prediction: Knox Central 28, Clay County 20

Morgan County at Jackson County

Thanks to the folks at Jackson County High School, who loves to promote their student-athletes, many of you will get to see this game on our social media platforms.

With that said, this game should be a dandy.

I’m giving the edge to the hometown team in a shootout.

Prediction: Jackson County 56, Morgan County 51

South Laurel at Southwestern

Coach John Hines has worked wonders during his first year at South Laurel while making me look like a fool to pick against them.

My record would almost look spotless, if I’d pick the a Cardinals to win.

This is a tough matchup and the winner will get the No. 2 seed. I feel like whoever got to host this game would be the favorite, and this week Southwestern is the host. I’m sure South Laurel will prove me wrong again, but I got to go with the Warriors.

Prediction: Southwestern 27, South Laurel 21

Taylor County at North Laurel

This might be Homecoming for the Jaguars but Taylor County isn’t going to be a pushover.

For North Laurel to win, the Jaguars must improve on offense.

Prediction: Taylor County 21, North Laurel 17

Lynn Camp at Harlan

This could be the game of the week. Both teams are evenly matched, and the Wildcats will have to find a way to slow down the Green Dragons’ offensive attack while Harlan must slow down DJ Wren.

Prediction: Lynn Camp 34, Harlan 27

Middlesboro at Williamsburg

I told you this week’s games were rough. Middlesboro unseated Williamsburg as district champs last season, but I see the Yellow Jackets reclaiming their title.

Prediction: Williamsburg 35, Middlesboro 21
