GROUND & POUND: Black Bears’ run game dominates during 43-7 win over South Laurel

Harlan County opened the 2022 season with an impressive 43-7 win over South Laurel on Friday.

The Black Bears gained more than 200 yards on the ground while turning the Cardinals over a couple of times during their double-digit win.

Harlan County managed to get the running clock going entering the third quarter after building a 37-0 advantage at halftime.

Thomas Jordan started the game off with a 30-yard rushing touchdown before adding a 10-yard score to give his team a 16-0

edge with 2:17 left in the first quarter. Ethan Rhymer also played a role find the end zone by adding two two-point conversions.

James Howard added touchdown runs of two-yards and 15 yards in the second quarter while Jonah Swanner broke loose for a 74-yard touchdown run to give the Black Bears a 37-0 lead at halftime.

South Laurel’s Hunter Bundy returned the kickoff for a touchdown to begin the third quarter to make the score, 37-7 before Josh Sergent’s 10-yard touchdown run gave his team a 43-7 advantage.
