It turned out to be a heck of a day for the Knox Central Lady Panthers, and super sophomore Halle Collins during Monday’s semifinal play of the 51st District Tournament.
The Lady Panthers (22-5) notched their place into next week’s 13th Region Tournament with a 66-36 win over Barbourville while Collins collected her 2,000th career points, and 1,000th career rebound in the 30-point victory.
Collins scored 22 points while recording her 27th consecutive double-double by grabbing 15 rebounds. She also had four assists, and two steals.
Knox Central got off to a slow start, and only led 16-10 at the end of the first quarter before taking a 36-18 advantage into the locker room at halftime.
Steve Warren’s squad put the finishing touches on the win by outscoring the Lady Tigers (4-20) 18-7 in the third quarter.
Kelsie Smith and Sydnee Hurst each scored seven points apiece for the Lady Panthers while Sarah Smith led the Lady Tigers with 16 points.
Knox Central has now won 18 straight against Barbourville with its last coming on Jan. 8, 2014.
