Whitley County’s Marissa Douglas has been named 13th Region Kentucky Volleyball Association Player of the Year.
“I’m really excited for Marissa to have been selected as 13th Region Player of the Year,” Whitley County coach David Halcomb said. “She is very deserving of this recognition. Marissa has always been a really good outside hitter for us and leads our team in kills on the season. She wasn’t satisfied with other areas of her game at the end of last season and wanted to become a better passer and server, so she went to work to get better, and she has.
“She put the time in during the off-season and has now become one of the most complete players in the 13th Region,” he added. “Besides that, and perhaps most importantly, Marissa is just a really good, humble kid. I’m happy for not only her, but for our team in general.”
Douglas has played a big role in Whitley County’s success this season, leading the Lady Colonels to a 22-14 mark and the 50th District championship. Whitley County is also participating in Wednesday’s 13th Region Tournament semifinals.
