PAINTSVILLE — Corbin got back in the win column Friday night, defeating Johnson Central 28-18 on the road to snap a two-game losing streak and improve to 4-2.
The Redhounds struck first when quarterback Mason Salmons connected with Zach Thomas for a touchdown pass with 9:04 remaining in the opening quarter. The extra point gave Corbin a 7-0 lead that held through the end of the first.
Johnson Central cut the margin to 7-6 on a seven-yard touchdown run with 55 seconds remaining in the second quarter, but Corbin answered before halftime.
Salmons found Trey Person for a seven-yard touchdown pass as time expired, sending the Redhounds into the break with a 14-6 advantage.
Person continued his big night in the third quarter, breaking free for a 47-yard touchdown run with 4:43 remaining to extend Corbin’s lead to 21-6.
Johnson Central answered with a 25-yard touchdown pass late in the third, but its two-point conversion attempt was unsuccessful, leaving Corbin ahead 21-12 entering the final quarter.
The Redhounds added some breathing room early in the fourth when Salmons connected with Thomas on a 45-yard touchdown pass. The extra point pushed the advantage to 28-12 with 11:24 remaining.
Johnson Central scored on a 53-yard touchdown run less than two minutes later, but another failed two-point conversion left the Golden Eagles trailing, 28-18.
