BARBOURVILLE — Knox Central made sure its first home game of the season was a memorable one, exploding for 43 first-half points on its way to a 43-21 victory over Martin County.
The Panthers snapped a two-game losing streak with the win and improved to 2-2 on the season.
“Proud of our kids coming out and jumping on Martin County 43-0 at the half,” Knox Central coach Wayne Mills said. “Offense was solid with several kids getting to the end zone.”
Knox Central took complete control during the opening two quarters, building a commanding 43-0 halftime advantage behind a balanced offensive attack.
Quarterback Eli Carey led the way through the air with a big performance as the Panthers repeatedly found the end zone.
“Eli Carey had a big night throwing the ball,” Mills said.
Martin County scored 21 points after halftime, but the Panthers’ first-half performance had already put the game out of reach.
The victory was especially meaningful for Knox Central as the Panthers were finally able to play in front of their home crowd.
“First home game, great atmosphere, great team win for us,” Mills said.
