CORBIN — In a matchup featuring two of the state’s Top 10 teams, No. 8 Pulaski County scored the game-winning touchdown with less than two minutes remaining to knock off No. 5 Corbin, 21-14.
The Maroons remained unbeaten at 4-0 while the Redhounds suffered their first loss and fell to 3-1.
Corbin struck first when Mason Salmons connected with Tayton Cox on a five-yard touchdown pass with 5:15 remaining in the first quarter. The extra point gave the Redhounds a 7-0 advantage that held through the end of the opening quarter.
Pulaski County answered late in the second quarter with a 25-yard touchdown run, tying the game at 7-7 with 2:36 remaining before halftime.
Corbin responded just before the break.
Salmons delivered his second touchdown pass of the game, finding Clay Akins from five yards out with only 23 seconds remaining. The extra point sent Corbin into halftime with a 14-7 lead.
Pulaski County battled back once again in the third quarter, scoring on a two-yard run with 5:03 remaining to tie the game at 14-14.
Neither team scored again in the third, setting up a fourth-quarter finish with the two Top 10 teams deadlocked.
The game remained tied until the final two minutes, when Pulaski County broke through with a four-yard touchdown run. The extra point put the Maroons ahead 21-14 with 1:57 remaining.
Corbin was unable to answer, allowing Pulaski County to escape with the seven-point victory and remain perfect on the season.
