LONDON — Jase Jones delivered the game-winner on a header off a corner kick as South Laurel erased a 2-0 deficit to rally past Corbin, 3-2, in 49th District boys soccer action Monday.
The Redhounds took control early behind goals from Silas Mackey and Bentley Hoskins, building a two-goal advantage before the Cardinals began working their way back into the match.
Chris Ramirez started South Laurel’s comeback by finding the back of the net to cut Corbin’s lead to one. Ryan Martinez then connected on a shot from distance to pull the Cardinals even at 2-2.
The match remained tied until Jones broke through, heading home a corner kick to complete South Laurel’s three-goal comeback.
South Laurel coach Brooks Cawood also credited Bryce Jones and Kayden Farler for their defensive efforts, along with goalkeeper Tre for making several key saves.
“We dug ourselves in a deep hole by going down 2-0,” Cawood said. “We started moving the ball a little better and were able to get back in with Chris’ goal. Ryan got us back even with a nice shot from distance. It took a while for the tiebreaker, but Jase delivered in a nice header from a corner kick.
“We had so many guys dig and work hard to come out with a win,” he added. “Bryce Jones and Kayden Farler did a great job defensively, and Tre, our goal keeper, was able to make some nice saves that would have otherwise been costly.”
Corbin coach Roger Taylor credited South Laurel for battling its way back after the Redhounds built the early advantage.
“After going up two goals, we took our foot off the gas,” Taylor said. “Corbin versus South games are always tight, hard-fought battles. We let them back in the game, and the momentum shifted. Credit to South and Coach Cawood for a good match.”
