Messer silences Knox Central’s bats, South Laurel advances to semis

LONDON — Aubrie Messer dominated inside the pitcher’s circle, and at the plate Monday while Bailey Frazier and Kiley Dunaway helped power South Laurel to an 11-0 win over Knox Central in first-round action of the 13th Region Fastpitch Tournament at South Laurel.

“Great game by Aubrie Messer in the circle today, only giving up one hit,” South Laurel coach Carly Mink said. “We also played a clean game behind her defensively.

“Offensively we were able to be patient, play a little small ball, and had a lot of quality at bats that lead to us putting up a big number today,” she added. “We ran the bases extremely well, taking advantage of situations.”

Messer fired a one-hit shutout and struck out eight over five innings while also going 2-for-3 with a triple and RBI.

Frazier added a huge performance at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI while Dunaway collected two hits and scored once.

Lexi Messer drove in two runs and scored twice while Kenzie Williams added two RBI. Ryleigh Bretz scored two runs and drew a pair of walks while Sadie Lawson chipped in a hit and run scored.

South Laurel scored three runs in the first inning before breaking the game open with a seven-run second inning. The Lady Cardinals finished with seven hits and took advantage of four Knox Central errors.
