Lady Cardinals eliminate Williamsburg with 14-1 win 

CORBIN — Behind big games from Lexi Messer, Aubrie Messer and Kiley Dunaway, South Laurel rolled past Williamsburg 14-1 Monday  in semifinal action of the 50th District Fastpitch Tournament.

Lexi Messer powered the Lady Cardinals offensively, going 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBI while Aubrie Messer dominated in the pitcher’s circle by allowing just one hit and striking out 11 over five innings.

“Good to get the first one out of the way and secure our spot in the region tournament,” South Laurel coach Carly Mink said. “

Aubrie Messer battled through five innings, striking out 11. Great performance by her. 

“Offensively, we were a little too aggressive to start the game but were able to settle in and have some really good at bats,” she added. “Lexi Messer had a big swing tonight that opened the scoring for us.”

Dunaway added a hit and two RBI as South Laurel improved to 32-5 on the season and advanced to the district championship game.

The Lady Cardinals broke the game open with an 11-run second inning after a scoreless first inning.

Bailey Frazier added a triple and an RBI while Morgan Jackson scored twice and drove in a run. Audrey Likins finished with a hit, RBI and run scored, and Skye Lawson also drove in a run and scored once.

Kenzie Williams doubled and added an RBI while Sadie Lewis and Emmie Rice each crossed the plate in the win.
