NETWORK GIRLS’ SOCCER WEEK 8 RANKINGS: Can top-ranked Corbin knock off defending champion South Laurel if the two teams meet again?

1. Corbin (14-4-1 overall, 6-0 vs. 13th Region opponents)

The Lady Redhounds began the season ranked No. 3, and the started off with a 1-3 mark before making a 360 and posting a 13-1-1 mark since Aug. 19.

Coach Hannah Goins and her coaching staff have done a fantastic job and the duo of Grace Gibson and Olivia Jones has been hard for opposing teams to contain.

2. South Laurel (10-7, 5-2)

The defending 13th Region champions suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to Corbin in the finals of the 49th District Girls’ Soccer Tournament in the final 20 seconds.

The Lady Cardinals are 0-2 against the Lady Redhounds with the other loss (4-3) coming via a PK Shootout.

If the two teams meet again in this week’s 13th Region title game at Knox Central, who knows who will come out on top.

3. North Laurel (5-6-1, 1-3)

The Lady Jaguars just didn’t have enough offensive firepower to get past teams like Corbin and South Laurel this season.

Take away the 10 goals they scored during their season-opening win over Garrard County, and they only scored 23 goals during their final 11 matches.

4. Whitley County (8-10, 2-4)

The Lady Colonels turned in a solid season but struggled when it came to district play, losing all four district contests they played this season.

5. Harlan County (6-10, 4-3)

How about those Lady Black Bears? They win their first-ever 50th District crown last week by defeating Knox Central, 2-1.
