Lady Panthers capture fifth consecutive 51st District crown 

BARBOURVILLE — Knox Central captured its fifth straight 51st District Girls’ Tournament championship thanks to a 76-20 win over Barbourville on Thursday.

The Lady Panthers led 20-8 at the end of the first quarter, and 48-17 at halftime before outscoring the Lady Tigers, 28-3, during the second half.

“Really proud of our girls effort tonight,” Knox Central coach Steve Warren said. “We were really dialed in defensively and shared the ball really well on offense. We had a 48-17 lead at the half and were able to hold them to three points in the second half. This is five District Championships in a row for us. I’m really proud of our girls.”

Shelbie Mills led Knox Central with 32 points while Makenzie Hensley, Kaylei Gambrel-Garrison, and Kaylynn Smith each scored 10 points apiece. Kylie Smith finished with eight points. 

Marleigh Martin led Barbourville with nine points.
