PINEVILLE — It’s been a long time coming, and Middlesboro finally got over the hump, stunning Harlan County with a 45-31 win during Monday’s 52nd District Tournament to advance to the 13th Region Tournament for the first time in 15 years.
“I’m just really proud of these girls,” Middlesboro coach Sallie Adams said. “I was super-happy with our defense covering the perimeter and our rebounding. We found ways to score in our sets and played poised. They deserve all the compliments.”
Emily Lambert tossed in a 16-point effort in the win while Millie Roberts added 15 points.
The Lady Yellow Jackets led 24-22 at halftime before outscoring the Lady Black Bears, 21-9, the remainder of the game.
