Brock notches 1,000th career point during Barbourville’s win over Williamsburg

BARBOURVILLE — Breanna Engle scored 22 points while Layla Brock added 18 points to lead Barbourville past Williamsburg on Monday, 82-55.

Brock also notched her 1,000th career point in the win while Marleigh Martin added 17 points, and Kandace Mills followed with 14 points as the Lady Tigers improved to 5-10.

Ellie Breeding turned in a game-high 24-point scoring effort for the Lady Yellow Jackets while Braylee Evans added 14 points, and Abby Moses chipped in 11 points. The loss dropped Williamsburg to 5-10.

“I’m proud of how we competed for three quarters,” Williamsburg coach Melissia Douglas said. “We stayed right with them and executed our game plan early, but foul trouble really caught up to us in the fourth, and we didn’t do a good enough job getting back in transition. Against a team like that, those mistakes turn into points fast. We’ll learn from it and get better.

“Ellie had a great night offensively. She was efficient and confident, knocking down 4-of-5 from three and going 6-of-7 at the free-throw line,” she added. I was also really proud of our younger players—they stepped in, gave us quality minutes, and played with confidence. That experience is going to be big for us moving forward. Abby and Braylee shot well too we just need more players shooting and scoring consistently.”
