Cole’s shooting propels Black Bears to win over Barbourville

BARBOURVILLE — Harlan County made the trip to Barbourville to face the Tigers on Friday, pulling off a 42-34 win.

Barbourville came out with the plan of slowing Harlan County down and they did just that. The first quarter ended with the Tigers leading 10-8.

The second quarter saw the Black Bears get rolling, taking a 16-12 lead into the half.

It was the third quarter however that really gave Harlan County the advantage.

After only scoring 16 points in the first half, Harlan County had a 16-point third quarter that provided some much-needed cushion. Barbourville made a late run in the final quarter but it proved to be too little too late as Harlan County managed to hang on for the win.

Harlan County made eight 3s to only four two point field goals. This stat is largely due to the five 3s made by junior Trenton Cole.

Brennan Blevins, Kaden Jones, and Landon Brock all managed to sink the 3-ball as well. The long range shooting paired with nine points by Reggie Cottrell was enough to give Harlan County its seventh win on the season.
