North Laurel Rolls Past Leslie County, 72–39, Advances to WYMT Mountain Classic Semifinals

HINDMAN — North Laurel put together a dominant performance Wednesday, racing past Leslie County, 72–39, to advance to semifinal action of the WYMT Mountain Classic. The Lady Jaguars improved to 2–1 with the win.

Haley Combs set the tone immediately, scoring 12 of her game-high 17 points in the first quarter as North Laurel built a commanding 29–10 lead. Laylee Phillips added five points in the period, including a 3-pointer, while Bella Lewis chipped in four.

The Lady Jaguars only extended their momentum in the second quarter.

Paisley Kilburn tallied seven points, Lewis scored six, and Phillips added five more as the advantage grew to 51–17 by halftime.

Kilburn finished with 15 points, Phillips scored 14, and Lewis totaled 12 to help North Laurel put four players in double figures.

North Laurel coach Eddie Mahan said he was pleased with his team’s early energy and execution.

“It’s always great to get a win in the WYMT Mountain Classic,” he said. “I thought we came out early and set the tone, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Mariella was an anchor on the defensive side while Haley Combs was attacking the ball on offensive. After the foundation was set with those two, the ball was moving very well for us and we had multiple people step up and score.”
