LOG MOUNTAIN — Dudley Hilton’s Bell County Bobcats are moving on after jumping out to an 8-0 lead and never looking back during their 16-6 win over Lawrence County on Friday.
The Bobcats (12-1) will now hit the road and face-off against unbeaten Christian Academy of Louisville (CAL), who defeated Union County, 48-7, on Friday.
Cal has Class 3A’s top seed while Lloyd Memorial is No. 2, Murray follows at No. 3 and the Bobcats are at No. 4.
Bell County used a stellar defensive attack to hand Lawrence County its second loss of the season. The 13th Region had the Bulldogs number this year, with both the Bobcats and North Laurel getting wins.
Kaleb Miller’s touchdown run with 3:22 remaining in the first quarter gave Bell County a 6-0 edge while the Bobcats added the two-point conversion to take an 8-0 lead.
Bell County quarterback Blake Burnett connected with a 14-yard touchdown pass to Joseph Brigmon as the Bobcats’ lead grew to 16-0 in the third quarter.
Bell County’s defense made key play after key play throughout the game and forced five turnovers, limiting Lawrence County to it lowest point total since being shut out by North Laurel on Sept. 19.
