Dominant Day for Avery Murray as Jaguars Impress in Season Opener

JAMESTOWN — North Laurel Swimming competed in the Laker Fall Preview hosted by Russell County High School in Russell Springs on Saturday, November 15.
Despite bringing only 13 swimmers—nine girls and four boys—the Jaguars turned in a strong performance, placing seventh overall out of 17 teams.
North Laurel coach Amber Murray noted that the group is extremely young, yet showed impressive competitiveness.
“We have a very young team and I am very pleased at how they showed up and swam,” she said. “Without a pool to practice in daily, like many of the other teams, they did very well.”
Four swimmers finished inside the top 25 percent overall: Avery Murray, Claire Corbett, Cameron Wagovich, and Boston Rupard.
Avery Murray delivered a dominant performance, winning all four of her individual events: 1st of 49 in the 50 Fly, 1st of 87 in the 50 Breaststroke, 1st of 169 in the 50 Freestyle, and 1st of 70 in the 100 Individual Medley. She recorded two personal-best times and was named the meet’s Overall Female Swimmer of the Meet.
Claire Corbett, a talented 7th-grader, placed 24th out of 125 swimmers in the 50 Backstroke and 14th out of 169 in the 50 Freestyle—both major accomplishments that highlight her promising future.
Cameron Wagovich posted strong times as well, finishing seventh of 66 swimmers in the 50 Breaststroke, 23rd of 120 in the 50 Freestyle, and 11th of 53 in the Individual Medley.
“After a strong Region 9 showing last year, Cameron continues to prove he’s ready to compete at a high level,” Murray said.
Boston Rupard placed 17th out of 89 swimmers in the 50 Backstroke.
Boston is another very talented swimmer with tons of potential for a future in swimming,” Murray said. “He is an outstanding leader both in and out of the pool.”
Swimmers Keira Caudill, Cash Harrell, Abram Rose, Caroline Welch, Jacee Short, Megan Cheek, Lakelee Gilbert, and Braelyn Crank also competed and delivered excellent effort, with each of them achieving multiple personal-best times.
