MCKEE — The Williamsburg Lady Yellow Jackets continued their dominance in the 13th Region All ‘A’ Classic, capturing their fifth straight championship Saturday with a string of convincing wins.
Williamsburg opened the tournament by sweeping Oneida Baptist Institute, 25-8, 25-14, before rolling past Harlan, 25-11, 25-18, in the semifinal. In the championship match, the Lady Jackets took down Barbourville, 25-13, 25-20, to claim the crown once again.
The victory pushes Williamsburg’s record to 9-6 on the season.
“Tremendous effort from everyone today,” Williamsburg coach Dirk Berta said. “We had multiple younger players step up today in big time moments, including Britton Evans, Peyton Taylor, Ahna Marlow, and Mahi Patel. Our starting group was great today too. Kylee and Karina Nantz, Braylee Evans, Kinley McNew, Ellie Breeding, Addi Jarboe, Allie Peace and Magomery Douglas all helped carry this team to a fifth straight All ‘A’ Region Championship.
“Today was a total team effort and the strength of our team is the way that we play together and pull the rope in the same direction,” Berta added. “We are looking forward to another trip to the state tournament after our 50th District matchup on Tuesday. As always, Go Jackets.”
