Lady Colonels hand Harlan County, 5-2, loss

BARBOURVILLE — Whitley County notched its spot in the Kentucky 2A, Section 7 title game with a 5-2 win over Harlan County 
The Lady Colonels will face-off against Corbin in the title game. 

Gabby Fore scored her team’s first goal with a stunning goal, expertly curled into the corner from 20 yards out. Jerrica Shepherd showcased her speed, outpacing the backline to net two crucial goals with Courtney Smith assist. Callie McQueen calmly converted a penalty kick midway through the second half, bolstering Whitley’s lead. Kierra Mullins battled through a swarm of defenders to muscle in a gritty goal, finding the back of the net with determination. Denae Henderson had an assist and proved to be the game’s pivotal force, consistently breaching the defensive line and sparking several critical runs that propelled the Lady Colonels to a 5-2 victory. 

“Kiera Cheek was very pivotal in distributing the ball for the Lady Colonels,” Whitley County coach Nick Shearer said. “Defensively, Olivia Richardson stepped up and covered our defensive half very well and making those transitions from defense to offense.”
