Welch, Thompson score three goals apiece during North Laurel’s 9-1 win over Whitley County

LONDON — The defending 13th Region champion North Laurel Lady Jaguars started their season with a win, defeating Whitley County, 9-1, on Saturday.

Annabelle Welch and Mia Thompson both led the way with three goals apiece while Lauren Crouch, Haley Combs, and Kylee McGee scored one goal apiece.

“We’ve been patiently waiting our turn to get the season started and our girls were able to come out and take care of business today,” North Laurel coach Kayla Carson said. “You never really know where their heads will be on a hot Saturday but they were able to lock in and get a big first win.

“Every player contributed in today’s victory,” she added. “We made a lot of substitutions to try to deal with the heat. Players were asked to different positions and everyone stepped up. Extremely proud of the effort from every player. We passed the ball well and helped make opportunities for lots of different scorers. Thankful to get the first game out of the way and get those first game jitters shook off. Thankful for a first win.”
