CORBIN — Marc Estep is excited to see what his Lynn Camp girls’ cross country team can accomplish this season with lots and talented and experienced runners returning.
“We have a large group of girls returning this season with a lot of experience, so I am hopeful that it translates into some hardware by the end of the season,” he said. “They have come in this summer with a great attitude and work ethic and as long as we stay healthy we should have some success.
“We have a large group of seniors this year — Lauren Partin, Bailey Martin, Katie Mills, Lilly Henize and Madison Weymers,” he added. “Katie and Bailey just started last year, but they both have learned a lot and I expect them to have a great season. Lauren, Lilly and Madison have been running since Middle School and really understand how things work and the commitment it takes to win a region. All three were on the two Region Championship Teams and are hungry to win a third. We have some underclassman that will be a huge help for us, Junior Paige Smith, Sophomore Addison Sagley, Sophomore Isabella Cruz, Freshman Sadie Melton and seventh grader Jayden Jody. I’m very excited to watch this group this year, they definitely have the drive to do well.”
Estep said his team’s schedule is “tough as always”with his Lady Wildcats running against some great teams in all classes.
“Our first meet August 23, here at Lynn Camp,” he said. “It will have all of the top teams in Class A, AA and AAA which will give us a good starting point. All of our meets are important, but only the last race is the one everyone remembers.
“I feel that if we stay healthy and continue to work as hard as we are we have a great chance of pulling off another regional title, but there are a lot of good teams that are also returning a lot of good runners,” Estep added. “Time will tell in the end. I have been blessed to coach a lot of good runners, but this group as a whole is very special to me. They are so easy to coach and are a blast to be around. Regardless of any outcomes, I will definitely miss the seniors, but at the same time I am very excited for the ones that will return.”
