Redhounds Celebrate Region Championship Win: Tarvin’s Gem and Elam’s Big Bat Shine

PINEVILLE — It’s a pitching performance that will be remembered for a long while.

Corbin senior pitcher Lucas Tarvin took the mound against the Whitley County Colonels in Wednesday’s 13th Region Baseball Tournament championship game, delivering the best outing of his career.

Tarvin dazzled on the hill, tossing a no-hitter for 5.1 innings before wrapping up his with an impressive stat line: 5.2 innings pitched, just one hit allowed, two strikeouts, and—most importantly— only two runs surrendered.

His dominant pitching effort helped the Redhounds secure a 7-2 victory, clinching their second straight 13th Region title and their third in the past four years.

In a heartfelt tribute, Corbin players sported raspberry blue and red jerseys to honor Eli Hill, who tragically passed away on March 20, 2023. The team, who struggled at things throughout the season, but never folded, played with heart, reflecting the spirit of Hill as they celebrated their championship victory.

“Lucas was phenomenal,” Corbin coach Cody Philpot said. “It couldn’t happen to a better young man. He’s an unquestioned leader of this group and he stepped up in the biggest way when we needed him. The fact that you ask that question is what wearing these jerseys is all about. Everyone wonders about the blue and that allows us to share Eli’s story. The love of the game, loving each other and living each day to its fullest.

“The start was huge,” he added. “We felt like we had a good plan coming in. That was the third time we’d seen Wilson and he’s been phenomenal but we’ve hit a lot of balls hard and felt like we could get something going today. Kade proved that true from the first pitch and then the guys followed him.”

The five-run win marked Corbin’s seventh 13th Region championship, capturing region titles in 1994, 2005, 2018, 2019, 2022, 2024, and 2025.

Senior Kade Elam started the fireworks with a lead-off home run to begin the game, quickly giving the Redhounds a 1-0 lead and they never looked back.

Corbin added another run in the first inning to take a 2-0 edge while adding two more runs in the fourth inning, pushing its lead to 4-0. The Redhounds added three more insurance runs in the sixth inning while the Colonels responded with two runs, but the damage was already done.

Clay Botner came in relief of Tarvin, pitching 1.1 innings of scoreless ball while allowing only one hit.

Elam went 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBI, and two runs scored while Cam Estep had two hits, two RBI, two stolen bases and one run scored. Noah Cima finished with two hits and an RBI while Levi Brock went 2-for-2. Cooper McCauley had a hit and scored twice while Botner and Trey Person both drove in a run apiece.

Caden Mountjoy led Whitley County with a hit and two RBI while Jason Nunley finished with a hit and a run scored.

Christian Wilson took the loss, allowing three hits and two earned runs in three innings of work while striking out a batter. EJ Allen tossed 3.1 innings, giving up five hits and four earned runs while striking out four batters. Trey Walton pitched the final 0.2 innings, allowing no hits or runs.
