PINEVILLE — Harlan and Barbourville were hooked up in a scoreless battle during the first four innings of their first round matchup of the 13th Region Tournament.
The Green Dragons (17-12) managed to break through in the fifth inning with two runs while adding three more runs in the fifth inning to knock off the Tigers, 5-1, on Monday.
Jaxson Perry finished with a hit, and two RBI while driving in a run for Harlan. Baylor Varner and Chris Rouse led the way with two hits apiece. Eli Freyer also had a run-scoring hit in the win.
Junior Brody Owens got the win, pitching a complete game, three-hit effort while allowing no earned runs. He struck out nine batters.
Barbourville (11-12) was its own worst enemy, committing three errors leading to two unearned runs.
Luke Hillard, Connor West, and Jacob Burdine each finished with a hit apiece for the Tigers.
Hillard took the loss, tossing six innings while allowing nine hits, and three earned runs. He struck out a batter.
