SOMERSET — Local boys’ and girls’ bass fishing teams from Whitley County, Middlesboro, South Laurel and North Laurel earned their way into the KHSAA State Bass Fishing Tournaments during this past weekend’s Third Region Bass Fishing Tournament.
Whitley County’s team of Chris Cureton and Skyler Mahan placed fifth with a total catch of 11 pounds and will advance to the state tournament.
Middlesboro, North Laurel and South Laurel will be sending teams as well.
The Yellow Jackets’ teams of Emmitt Butler and Garrison Warren (sixth place, 10 pounds, 15 ounces) not only earned a state tournament bid but also captured the Big Bass award with a catch of three pounds, nine ounces. Joining their teammates at the state tournament are Jospeh Killion and Aiden Larew (seventh place, 10 pounds, 13 ounces).
The Cardinals’ teams of Landon Alexander and Hunter Swafford (eighth place, nine pounds, 12 ounces), and Isaac Alsip and Logan Kilburn (15th place, eight pounds and four ounces) will be advancing to state along with North Laurel’s teams of Brayden Howard and Joeclay Durham (eighth place, nine pounds, 12 ounces) and Meguire Day and Blaine Smith (10th place, nine pounds, six ounces).
On the girls’ side,
South Laurel’s Hailey Anderson and Brooklynn Martin placed third with a total catch of six pounds, and 13 ounces, clinching their bid to participate in the state tournament.
