North Laurel’s boys’ and girls’ tennis teams continue to excel on the hard courts

SHELBYVILLE — The North Laurel boys’ and girls’ tennis teams turned in a solid week of action in the hard courts with both teams picking up wins over Barbourville.
The Jaguars won, 8-1 over the Tigers, while the Lady Jaguars picked up a 9-0 victory.
Both teams traveled to Shelby County this past weekend with the boys’ team picking up wins over Jeffersontown (5-0) and Shelby County (3-2) while the girls’ team split a pair of matches, defeating Jeffersontown, 4-1, before falling to Shelby County, 3-2.
“Our Saturday trip provided us with several good matches,” Smith said. “The girls started off with a win vs J’town with Sofia Begley and Lexi Hildebrand leading the way in singles and Natalie Robinson/Kaylee Moore and Alyssa Lowe/Taylor Vaughn taking care of business in doubles. We got some good competition versus Shelby and lost a tight one. The highlight was Adelyn (Maxey) winning yet another match that came down to a super-breaker.
“The boys team handled J’town in the morning, and we got just what we expected against a solid Shelby County team — a match that could come down to the last court,” he added. “Three of the five courts went to super-breakers, and winning two of those three was the difference is us being able to eke out the win. Jackson Gilbert and Tucker Hamilton gave us a lead going into doubles, and Joeclay Durham/Ethan Carter were able to come back and play a solid super-breaker to win the deciding court for us. It was a productive day for both the boys and girls as we enter a tough two weeks of play ahead.”
