Lady Yellow Jackets fall short in 16-14 loss to Somerset Christian

WILLIAMSBURG — Roger Prewitt’s Williamsburg Lady Yellow Jackets didn’t get the win against Somerset Christian on Friday, but they hung tough and pounded out 18 hits during their 16-14 loss.

The Lady Yellow Jackets (0-2) led 8-1 after the first inning but couldn’t hold on to the lead as Somerset Christian scored six runs in the third inning to tie the game at eight apiece and used a five-run seventh inning to take control of the game.

Kyli Monhollen threw really well tonight,” Prewitt said. “We struggled to field it at times, that’s what got us in the trouble that we had. We battled back every inning. We hit the ball a lot better tonight putting up 14 runs. You would think putting up 14 runs, that you would win some ball games, but you know, we’re still young learning to field it learning the game.

“I was proud of my team and how we battled back, especially at the end, coming back in the bottom of the seventh down four runs,” he added. “We had a chance at the end and just couldn’t get them. But I’m super proud of my team.”

Angel Stephens led Williamsburg with four hits, three RBI, and three runs scored while Megan Prewitt had three hits, three RBI, and two runs scored. Reighanna Wyatt delivered two hits, two RBI and one run scored while Brooklyn Taylor finished with three hits, one RBI, and two runs scored.

Monhollen pitched seven innings, allowing 18 hits, and 13 earned runs while striking out eight batters.
