Lady Redhounds survive and advance to 13th Region Tourney semis with come from behind win over Harlan

CORBIN — Isaac Wilson’s Corbin Lady Redhounds saw a 14-point first half lead evaporate into a four-point fourth quarter deficit, but still managed a way to advance to Friday’s 13th Region Girls’ Tournament semifinals.

Corbin used a 20-5 run during the final five minutes to pull away and pick up a 77-66 win over Harlan.

The Lady Redhounds had just dropped a 74-32 decision to the Lady Green Dragons on Feb. 18.

Raegan Walker led the way with 23 points and eight rebounds while hitting 13-of-14 free throw attempts. She also had four assists. Kylie Clem added 20 points for Corbin while Lydia King had 12 points, and Addy Wilson finished with 10 points.

Wilson’s squad shot  24-of-52 from the floor while hitting 8-of-16 shot attempts from 3-point range. They also hit 16-of-21 free throw attempts.

“Great team win for our basketball team,” Wilson said. “The motto for us this time of year is just go out and earn 32 more minutes. I thought that Kylie and Raegan led us very well tonight and displayed a lot of leadership that we will continue to need moving forward.

“Anytime that you have four players in double figures and another with eight points, You should have a pretty good night offensively,” he added. “For us it continues to be on the defensive end of the floor that we are struggling with. We have to use the next two days to improve on that end of the floor. Defense is important and wins championships this time of the year especially in the postseason when games become very possession style.

“I’m happy for our team and we will enjoy this one for tonight,” Wilson continued. “Then we will set our sights on competing to earn 32 more minutes on the season come Friday night.”

Peyshaunce Wynn led Harlan with a game-high 30 points while knocking down five 3-pointers and finishing with five assists. Kylie Now had 19 points and 11 rebounds while Aymanni Wynn scored nine points.

The Lady Green Dragons finished 24-of-49 from the floor while going 6-of-14 from 3-point range.

The Lady Redhounds came out red-hot, building a 22-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Corbin scored the game’s first 10 points before a basket by Harlan’s Noe with 4:40 remaining cut the Lady Green Dragons’ deficit to 10-2.

The Lady Redhounds maintained the lead throughout the quarter behind 3-pointers from Clem and Walker. A 3-pointer by Harlan’s Rhymer before the end of the period cut the Lady Green Dragons’ deficit to 14 points.

Corbin maintained a double-digit lead (41-31) at halftime despite being outscored, 23-19.

The Lady Redhounds were led in scoring during the first half by Raegan Walker, who had 11 points. Clem had nine points while Izzy Walker and Addy Wilson had eight points apiece.

Corbin shot 10-of-31 from the floor, including 6-of-10 from 3-point range. 

Peyshaunce Wynn led Harlan with 20 points while Noe had four points, and Cheyanne Rhymer had three points.

The Lady Green Dragons hit 12-of-24 shot attempts, including 4-of-9 from 3-point  territory.

Harlan kept chipping away in the third quarter, outscoring Corbin, 22-12, while tying the game at 53 apiece.

The Lady Green Green Dragons claimed a 56-55 edge in the fourth quarter before Peyshaunce win knocked down her fourth 3-pointer, giving Harlan a 59-55 edge at the 6:06 mark of the fourth quarter.

Clem’s old-fashioned 3-point play, cutting the Lady Redhounds’ deficit to 61-60 with 5:04 remaining in regulation.

Raegan Walker tied the game at 62 apiece at the 4:13 mark before putting Corbin ahead 64-62 with 3:07 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Walker added two more free throws while Clem raced downcourt and scored on a layup, giving the Lady Redhounds a 68-62 lead with two minutes left.

Corbin went on and pulled away, recording an 11-point victory.
