North Laurel’s Brooke Nichelson named KABC 13th Region Girls’ Player of the Year

LONDON — North Laurel senior Brooke Nichelson earned her bid to try out for the Kentucky All-Stars while also becoming a finalist for Miss Basketball after being named KABC 13th Region Player of the Year on Friday.
Nichelson has played a big role in North Laurel’s the success this season, averaging 23 points and nine rebounds a game while going up against one of the toughest schedules in the state.
She’s helped the Lady Jaguars to a No. 7 state ranking and a 25-2 record.
“Brooke Nichelson is, without a doubt, the most exceptional athlete I’ve had the privilege of coaching at any level,” North Laurel  coach Eddie Mahan said. “Her incredible skills on the basketball court have left me speechless on numerous occasions. Even in elementary school, it was clear that she was destined for greatness.
“What sets Brooke apart, however, is her unwavering commitment to team success,” he added. “She has always prioritized the Lady Jags’ goals over individual achievements, demonstrating a selfless dedication to our program. Brooke has willingly made sacrifices, putting the team’s needs ahead of her own, and has consistently risen to the challenge whenever her team needed her to excel.
“Her remarkable combination of talent, athleticism, skill, and teamwork has made her an invaluable asset to our team, and I’m honored to have had the opportunity to coach her,” Mahan continued. “Brooke is for sure deserving of the title — 13th Region Player of the Year.”
