Colonels advance to Battle in the Village title game 

MARYVILLE, TENN. — The Whitley County Colonels advanced to Saturday’s championship game of the Battle in the Village Tournament after recording another double-digit win, , defeating Oneida, Tenn., 75-47.

The Colonels (7-1) held a slim 18-16 lead in the first quarter before pulling away.

Levi Jackson scored eight points in the second quarter while Riley Fuson added six points, building a 40-26 advantage at halftime.

Fuson added six more points in the third quarter while Garrett Sharp added five points to give Whitley County a 57-33 cushion entering the fourth quarter.

“Great defensive effort by our guys,” Whitley County coach Eric Swords said. “After the first quarter, I thought we really locked in. We shot and shared the ball well, offensively. When we do those things we are tough to beat. 

“Really impressed with the way Dee (Parker) is playing right now. He’s doing a great job on both ends for us. We will have a big test with whoever wins the other semi final game.”

Fuson capped off his day with three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter, finishing with 23 points in the win. Jackson added 18 points while Bryson Mahan chipped in 13 points.
