Lynn Camp’s Ethan Chafin records 41-point scoring effort in 82-56 loss to Owsley County

CORBIN — Dinky Phipps’ second go-around as Lynn Camp’s coach started off with a 82-56 season-opening loss to Owsley County.

The Wildcats (0-1) received a 41-point scoring effort from Ethan Chafin but in the end it wasn’t enough.

“We’re very young,” Phipps said. “I’ve got two kids hurt, too. We will take a lot of licks but we’ve just got to keep our heads up. We started five kids that had never started a varsity game. We will continue to get better. We’ve got a hard schedule coming up, so we just got to continue to improve.”

Lynn Camp fell behind 32-9 in the first quarter and never recovered. The Wildcats trailed 50-13 at halftime and 70-37 entering the fourth quarter.

Chafin scored seven points in the first quarter, 10 points in the second quarter, and nine points in the third quarter before adding 15 points during the game’s final eight minutes.

Elijah Mayo added five points while five players scored two points apiece.

Lynn Camp will be back in action at home Tuesday against Middlesboro.
