MOVING ON: Corbin eliminates Williamsburg, sets up fourth meeting with Whitley County

CORBIN — There will be a fourth meeting between Corbin and Whitley County — this time with a 50th District Tournament championship on the line.

The Lady Redhounds advanced to Tuesday’s 50th District Tournament title game (start time is slated for 6 p.m.) by defeating Williamsburg in four sets.

“We played a well-coached Williamsburg team that has improved so much this season,” Corbin coach Krystal Jones said. “They gave us a great challenge, and I’m proud of how our girls responded and stepped up. It felt really nice to punch our ticket to region.

“We’ll celebrate this win tonight, but with a quick turnaround, our focus shifts immediately to tomorrow’s game,” she added. “We know there’s still work to be done, and we’re ready for the next challenge.”

Corbin will now face-off against Whitley County, who handed the Lady Redhounds their first region loss last week. The two teams have met three times so far this season with Corbin winning two of three.

Krystal Jones’ squad wasted no time picking up a first set win over the Lady Yellow Jackets with a 25-16 victory. Williamsburg hung tough in the second set before falling, 25-19, but rallied in the third set with a 25-20 win.

Corbin secured a spot in the 13th Region Tournament with a 25-12 victory in the fourth set.

The win improved the Lady Redhounds to 24-7 while the Lady Yellow Jackets finish with a 17-14 mark.
