Lady Cardinals end regular season play with big win over Jackson County

LONDON — The South Laurel Lady Cardinals are peaking at the right time.

Shelley Nunley’s squad capped off regular season play with an impressive 25-22, 23-25, 25-23, and 25-17 Senior Night win over a Jackson County that had beaten the Lady Cardinals on Aug. 26.

South Laurel moves to 11-20, and will enter Monday’s 50th District Tournament at Corbin High School, riding a two-game win streak when they play defending 13th Region champion Whitley County at 6 p.m.

“Senior night always invites a different atmosphere than other games that’s so fun to play in,” Nunley said. “Our girls did a great job pushing point to point to end in a big win for our four awesome seniors. It took us a minute to warmup at the start, but we were able to find a balance of aggressiveness and control that massively contributed to the outcome. It’s especially nice hitting a good groove heading into post-season play.

“And, I just want to shoutout Addie, Brooke, Sarah, and Addison for all that they’ve given our program in the years they’ve spent with us,” she added. “Nights like tonight are bittersweet when we get to recognize and celebrate such special girls, knowing that we’ll be losing them soon. A big thanks to them and their commitment to South Laurel volleyball.”
